The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception on Catholic University’s campus in the neighborhood of Brookland is one of Washington DC’s treasures and a jewel of the Catholic Church.

This basilica is the largest Roman Catholic Church in North America. It is full of sacred art and beautiful mosaic, but most importantly it serves as a place of worship for Catholics from all over the world and expresses the universality of the Church.  

Aside from visiting the Most Blessed Sacrament my favorite things to do here are visiting the many side chapels and wandering the crypt imagining all the people whose names line the walls and how with their efforts and great faith these newly arrived Americans and fleets of men and women religious built schools, churches and hospitals. We owe them the deepest gratitude.
